How Long Should I Wear Bra After Breast Augmentation

"How long should I wear bra after breast augmentation" is a frequent question after surgery.  Like many things in plastic surgery, there really are no consensus on sports bras or any other bras.  Most of our opinions are based on personal experience and what we were taught in our training.  I do not know of any clinical studies on how a bra affects the results of breast augmentation.  As always, it is best to follow your surgeon's guidelines as far as the use and type and duration of bras after breast augmentation. The following is my recommendations for my patients for "how long should I wear bra after breast augmentation" surgery.  In general, I want you to wear a sports bra for 4 weeks for 24 hours a day and at night for the first year after surgery. The type of sports bra is also very important.  I recommend wearing sports bras that zips in the front.  Not only are they easier to put on especially immediately after surgery, they provide better latter sports.  I do not like bras that smashes your breast down.  You can find my recommended sports bra here on my post: Best Bra After Breast Augmentation. The actual length of how long you will wear a sports bra after breast augmentation may vary based on your anatomy.  My goal is to make sure that your breast implants do not end up in your arm pits.  This is the primary reason why I will encourage you to wear the right kind of  sports bra during the first year.  When you are lying down on your back, the forces of gravity will push you implant down into your arm pits.  I want to make sure during the healing process that the capsule will form in the proper position.  After one year, your capsule will be mature enough to support any positional changes.
