Mizuguchi Plastic Surgery Reviews
49 Years Old, Fraxel Repair and Full Facial Fat Transfer - Louisville, KY - I chose Dr. Mizuguchi after 2 other PS consults for fraxel, fat transfer and a mini facelift. Dr. M told me that the mini lift would not result in a good long term result since I'd had weight loss surgery and my skin would not respond as others would. No one else picked up on that. He also is very kind and fun and instills confidence in you that he knows exactly what will work for you. I had the fraxel and fat transfer and I am very, very pleased. The staff at Calospa is also top notch, very careful to review the procedures thoroughly, prepare you for surgery and follow you closely afterward. I cannot recommend these folks more highly.

How is a Facial Fat Transfer Performed?
Once you are under general anesthesia or local sedation, an instrument called a cannula is inserted into the skin to suction out the fat. Incisions for this procedure are routinely very small and will be easily hidden under clothing. The removed fat is then sorted and purified before being put into a syringe for the transfer. Our plastic surgeon will inject the fat into the skin and massage the area so that the fat settles smoothly into the needed place. This process may have to be performed several times, which is also known as a layered fat grafting, for the best results. You will see some redness and swelling initially, but fat transfers usually have a downtime of 7 – 10 days and total recovery period of 1 – 2 weeks.
What to Expect After A Facial Fat Transfer
You may need additional grafting surgeries in the future. As the fat settles into the new area of the body, it may become reabsorbed. Fat transfer is generally an easier and more natural way to enhance and add volume to areas of the face than dermal injectables or artificial implants. Some patients may consider having dermal injections in the area(s) that need volume as a test to see what they do or do not like about the overall results.

Facial Fat Transfer FAQs
Should I get a dermal filler or fat transfer?
Both a facial fat graft and a dermal filler (for example, Restylane or JUVÉDERM) may correct the visibility of fine lines and static wrinkles while also restoring volume. Although fillers may create great results, a facial fat transfer often lasts longer and looks more natural. To help you decide how much volume you want and where, Dr. Mizuguchi might suggest using dermal fillers. As soon as you've figured out what you want, Dr. Mizuguchi can perform a facial fat transfer for results that last years instead of months.
Can facial fat grafting be combined with another procedure?
A fat transfer to the face may be combined with a nonsurgical treatment like a wrinkle relaxer such as BOTOX or a skin treatment like a facial. A fat transfer is also a popular treatment to complement a facial surgery. A fat transfer can add volume to improve the proportions of your face, which enhances the surgical results of a facelift, neck lift, or chin augmentation. Talk to Dr. Mizuguchi during your consultation about all your needs and wants so he can develop a comprehensive plan with nonsurgical and surgical treatments that help to reach all of your cosmetic goals.
How long does a facial fat transfer take?
How long it takes to complete your facial fat graft will vary depending on how much fat is removed and the volume needed to attain the desired result. As soon as your plan is created during your consultation, Dr. Mizuguchi can discuss what you can expect, like the time it will take for fat removal, fat preparation, and grafting. Dr. Mizuguchi takes his time carefully place thin layers of fat with innovative techniques so your results look beautiful and natural.
