What Are the Benefits of An Arm Lift?

At Mizuguchi Plastic Surgery, women and men who request arm lifts enjoy a number of notable improvements, such as:

  • Reduced scraping, rawness, and soreness in the torso and underarms
  • Addresses extra skin as a result of substantial weight loss or getting older
  • Solution for trouble spots that seem to be resistant to physical activity or diet changes
  • Improved confidence and less anxiety when picking out sleeveless tops

Who Is An Ideal Candidate for an arm lift?

While weight loss can cause sagging skin to appear on the arms, some of the loose skin can also be caused by genetics. This makes it very difficult to tone the arm to an individual’s desire. When diet and exercise fail to tone the upper arm, our trusted plastic surgeon can create outstanding results. Ideal candidates for an arm lift exhibit:

  • Loose upper arm skin that is resistant to diet and exercise
  • Loose upper arm skin that appears after losing more than 100 pounds
  • Sagging skin that creates anxiety when wearing sleeveless shirts

How is an arm lift performed?

After being put under general anesthesia, the incision for a brachioplasty is made from the elbow to the upper arm. Loose skin will be trimmed away and the underlying tissue will be pulled tight. This surgery takes about two hours, and there is usually no need for an overnight stay unless it is paired with other procedures. You should be prepared for temporary swelling and bruising after the surgery. To promote healthy healing and blood circulation, the arms should be kept elevated. You can usually return to normal activities in about 3 – 4 weeks.

I've had such a wonderful experience with Dr. Mizuguchi and his staff. He is a humble, talented, and kind physician. I had a brachioplasty with another surgeon back in March. My results were not good and that surgeon didn't take off enough skin. Went in for a consultation with Dr. Mizuguchi to get a second opinion and knew he would be able to fix everything. I had surgery with him yesterday and he did such a fabulous job and my arms look amazing. He also personally called me several hours after surgery to check on me. I would recommend him to everyone!😊

What happens after an arm lift?

For best results, an arm lift may require liposuction of the fat deposits within the upper arm to make the final look slim and trim. The skin tightening may not be enough to result in taut arms. During your consultation, our surgeon will discuss the best course of action given your skin health and condition. Keep in mind that most of the stretch marks will also be taken with the skin; however, if weight is regained, it could damage the treated area. An arm lift gives you the opportunity to have more defined arms for years to come.

Can I combine an arm lift with other surgeries?

It's normal for arm lift patients to combine this surgery with another procedure. This is sometimes called an upper body lift and can include liposuction, a breast lift, and/or a tummy tuck. Arm lift surgery is also commonly performed as part of an after weight loss surgery for those who have lost a large amount of weight and need full body contouring. During your consultation with Dr. Mizuguchi, each surgery will be discussed in order to develop your unique treatment plan.

Will there be scars?

An arm lift requires incisions to remove excess skin, which means there will be scars from sutures. However, Dr. Mizuguchi can make every effort to ensure that your incisions are small and placed in inconspicuous areas. Following your arm lift, topical creams to assist in scar healing and other tips for minimizing scarring could be suggested. Dr. Mizuguchi also suggests avoiding significant UV exposure for at least one year to protect the scar from discoloring. Patients generally believe the benefits of a more toned arm are worth the minimal scars created.

Are there nonsurgical treatments to improve my arms?

Although there are many great noninvasive skin tightening treatments, they typically only delvier small improvements. A surgical arm lift is your best option to correct moderate to severe amounts of loose skin. Along with treating excess skin, Dr. Mizuguchi also uses liposuction on small pockets of fat and smooths the remaining skin and tissue for a better result. If you're interested in nonsurgical treatments, Dr. Mizuguchi can explain all possible treatments during your consultation and then help you choose which is best for your needs and goals.
