An outpatient procedure, rhinoplasty is performed while you are under general anesthesia at an accredited surgical facility. Depending on the technique used and your unique needs, surgery can last 2 – 4 hours. There are two types of nose surgery procedures: open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty.

Open rhinoplasty, or external rhinoplasty, involves our plastic surgeon making a small incision on the underside of the nose between the nostrils to give him better access to the lower and middle parts of the nose. Our surgeon can then manipulate tissue, skin, and bone as needed. In addition, the placement of the incisions allows for minimal scarring. Open rhinoplasty is used for more complex nose surgeries.

With closed rhinoplasty, or endonasal rhinoplasty, incisions are made inside of the nostrils. This technique is usually used for less complex surgeries, such as when the nose already has a good shape and isn’t considered too wide or too long. Due to the placement of the incisions, there should be no visible scarring.

Great Doctor - I had my nose reconstruction, breast augmentation, and fat transfer to cheeks and lips. My breast looks perfect, even after breastfeeding 3 kids, he made it even, close to center. Scars underneath my breast are almost invisible. My nose was curved, big and had a hump. He converted it completely. Now it's little, straight and cute. I recovered very fast, not much pain anywhere. After 5 days didn't need any pain killers any pore. Fat didn't survive very well though, especially on lips. I will go back to get more injected.

After surgery, your nose can be stabilized with splints made of soft material. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled for the next day where the splints will be removed and external dressings will be placed on the nose, which will remain for about two days. You should expect some pain, discomfort, bruising, and swelling after surgery that should fully subside within a few weeks. The nose will reposition and evolve into its surgically enhanced shape for months after surgery. The finished product should be fully realized within a year with a beautifully shaped, positioned, and proportionate nose.

What about ethnic rhinoplasty?

Ethnic rhinoplasty is about improving the nose while still keeping your cultural identity. This is often a consideration if you are of African-American, Asian, or Middle Eastern descent. During your consultation with Dr. Mizuguchi, you can talk about what you want to keep and what you would like to change. This will allow him to customize your treatment plan so you get your best results.

Can I combine nose surgery with other facial surgeries?

Some patients consider combining nose surgery with another cosmetic procedure, like cheek or chin augmentation. Combining surgeries for a more dramatic result can be reviewed during your consultation with Dr. Mizuguchi. Once he understands your goals, he can help you choose which procedures will be in your custom treatment plan. Rhinoplasty can help make your whole face look more balanced, so you may want to wait to see your results before considering another procedure.
