The best candidates for ear reconstruction surgery:
- Have prominent, sticking out, misaligned, misshapen, or disproportionate ears
- Can be as young as five or six to correct ear abnormalities
- Have anxiety about the look of their ears
- Desire a long-term solution
- Desire a natural look
Dr. Mizuguchi can perform earlobe repair surgery if you have experienced a tear in your earlobe due to piercings or trauma. This is generally a short, in-office procedure that requires local anesthesia and lasts around 30 minutes. You will need to come back a week later to have your sutures removed, and then you can have your ears re-pierced after about 6 – 8 weeks if you desire. There should be little downtime associated with this surgery, and you can enjoy your restored ear for potentially years to come.

"Decided on 485 cc's under the muscle. I just had my surgery yesterday and so far so good! - I'm 30 years old and I have two kids, I've wanted implants for a long time, after I breastfed my youngest who is now 5 years old, I became very deflated and hated my chest, I was a 36D. I met my surgeon Dr. Mitzuguchi about a month ago and had a virtual consultation where we decided I'd need a lift and I showed him my wish pictures, at my pre op appointment I was able to go in and try on different sizes of implants and we decided on 485 cc's under the muscle, I just had my surgery yesterday and so far so good! I'm very happy with my results so far, and dr. Mitzuguchi and his staff are amazing, very pleasant to work with and very tentative to their patients needs. I'm pretty sore today but it's nothing too bad, I'm on muscle relaxers and pain killers, and I have my first post op visit on Monday!!!"- A. / RealSelf / Jun 12, 2020

What to Expect
Otoplasty is an outpatient procedure that normally requires local anesthesia. Small incisions will be made around the ears to allow our surgeon better access to the cartilage. Cartilage can then be manipulated through removal, reshaping, and reforming to repair the ears for an improved, symmetrical look. Excess skin from the ear can also be removed if needed. The length of the surgery depends on the technique and the condition of your ears.
Following ear surgery, the ears will be dressed to provide protection. The dressing will remain in place for around five days for children and two days for adults. There’s little pain or discomfort associated with otoplasty, but you should expect to experience tenderness and swelling. It’s crucial that pediatric patients not touch or bother their ears while they are healing. Results are long standing and should provide years of positive benefits for everyone.
